Clean Glock 17 - In previous installments of the Firearm Cleaning article series, I discussed how to clean a firearm as it pertains to the AR-15 rifle. Cleaning a semi-automatic handgun is much like cleaning a rifle, except it takes less time due to the smaller gun.
Thus, my personal cleaning procedure for general cleaning of a handgun is similar to a rifle like the AR-15, except scaled down. When discussing gun cleaning, I will use the Glock 17 (Gen 3) as an example firearm. Glock pistols are very common, so this is a good gun to use for a demonstration. Additionally, cleaning other semi-automatic pistols will be done in much the same way.
Clean Glock 17
Break the Glock into its subgroups like I do with the AR-15 for cleaning. But the three component groups for the Glock pistol are:

We start by spraying the slide and barrel down with MPro-7 gun cleaner. I want the MPro-7 to sink into the hole to remove dried fouling for easier cleaning. While this is happening, start on the slide first.
Cleaning the slide is quite simple. Use a nylon brush to crush and shake off any dry contamination on the slide. Then I used a shop towel with MPro-7 to wipe down the inside and outside of the slide.
That's enough for the slide. I did not remove the inside of the slide for post cleaning. Unless the gun gets wet (eg submerged in water, rain), I do not remove the inside of the slide for cleaning.
After cleaning the slide, I will continue to clean the barrel. I will brush the bore several times to loosen the fouling in the drilling ground.
Where To Oil A Glock
After brushing the hole, I will run through the barrel several times with wet parts (MPro-7) and dry on a pierce-like jag until there is minimal to no fouling streaks on the spots.
After the bore is cleaned, clean all debris on the outside of the barrel, including the barrel cap area, the recoil spring flap area, and the chamber area with a nylon brush and a shop sponge.
Next I will spray the chamber and bore with brake cleaner to get any remaining gunk and gun cleaner.
The final stage is to clean the frame. I don't usually do much in this area. What I like to do is clean the slide rails on the frame with a nylon brush and sponge with the MPro-7. Also wipe all exposed surfaces of the trigger assembly (trigger rod, ejector, housing, etc.). Wipe the surface of the frame as well as the inside of the magazine well with a damp shop towel with MPro-7.

Once everything is clean, I proceed to lubricate the Glock with Slip2000 EWL. I pour some oil through the hole to give a light surface coating for rust prevention. I will dry the barrel with a shop towel and Slip2000 EWL. I will also spread a coating of oil all over the inside and outside surfaces of the slide, and put extra oil on the grooves of the slide.
Then I put the gun back together and put oil on the barrel cap, and cycle the slide several times, then wipe the gun with a shop towel to remove the excess oil.
Here are my procedures for cleaning the Glock pistol. While this is intended to be an article discussing how to clean a gun and is not the only way to clean it, I believe the procedures I have described are very similar to how most gun owners clean their arms. is the GLOCK 17 GEN 4 (L131A1) 9mm pistol... You don't need a lot of specialized knowledge to clean a Glock. But you need to know how to clean a dirty Glock 17 window – and not just in general, but specifically for your Glock 17.
Is The Glock 17 The Best Combat Pistol?
There are many different variations of the Glock pistol. The standards that most people think have a rough finish on the slide, grip and other components. These rifles are so easy to handle and maintain that they are often used by police departments, security companies and even hunters who want an easily concealed rifle that is easy to load, clear and reload.
Solvents and degreasers are much more aggressive than the vinegar solution, so they generally do a better job of cleaning the gun. But they are also much more likely to scratch some of the coatings on your Glock. The vinegar solution is less likely to damage the coating, but it is not as effective at cleaning the gun. So to summarize: solvents and degreasers are better for cleaning the gun and vinegar is better for protecting the gun.
Brake cleaner is a chemical solvent designed to clean the dirt that can build up inside a car's engine. It's pretty nasty stuff, but it will clean a dirty Glock 17 glass pretty well.
When cleaning the sled with brake cleaner, be sure to cover your hands and other exposed parts of your body. Remember that if there is a detergent on your skin, it can cause chemical burns.

First remove any magazine in the gun and make sure the chamber is clear. Then pour a small amount of brake cleaner onto an old cloth. Rub the cloth on the slide and other parts of the gun that may have accumulated on them. Use a new section of the cloth for the frame, back of the sled, and other parts that are particularly sensitive to chemicals. You may need to use a toothbrush to scrub the nooks and crannies of the slide.
The solvent hexane is sometimes used to clean parts in a car engine. It is also a very effective solvent for cleaning a dirty Glock 17 glass. When cleaning the slide with hexane, be sure to cover your hands and other parts of your body that are exposed. If solvent gets on your skin, it can cause burns.

There are several types of gun solvents. Some are made specifically for cleaning guns, while others are designed to clean rifles or shotguns. Some of the most common solvents are carbon tetrachloride, methyl ethyl ketone and trichlorethylene. Depending on the solvent, you may need to wear special equipment such as a respirator while cleaning your Glock. Most manufacturers recommend cleaning your Glock with a solvent such as acetone or methyl ethyl ketone.

When you're done cleaning your Glock, don't just put the gun away. It's a good idea to give the gun a quick inspection and make sure everything is working properly. You can even go so far as to do a basic functional test as long as no one is around and you are not at a distance. If you clean the gun properly, there should be no dirt in the firing mechanism. In any case, it's good to do a quick inspection to make sure nothing is blocking the fire path.
First, make sure the magazine is removed. Next, lay the slide up and see if there is any dirt or dust flying out of the gun. If there is, you want to find it and remove it before it causes paper jams or malfunctions.

Cleaning a dirty Glock 17 slide can be intimidating if you don't know how to tackle the job. But with the right cleaning products and procedures, it's not that difficult. You don't need to clean your Glock every time you use it, but it's a good idea to do a quick cleaning every two months. If you clean your gun regularly, the chances of a significant accumulation of dirt and grime are one
