At Kyle Rittenhouse's trial last week, no one asked the gunmen to protect their property under oath in court, the Car Source owner's sons said. Later Tuesday, one of Car Source's former employees said otherwise, also under oath in court.

Rittenhouse was among a number of gunmen and at least one woman, who confirmed they were asked to protect Auto Source on the night of August 25, 2020. At the end of the night, Rittenhouse said shot and killed two men – Joseph Rosenbaum in the parking lot of an Auto Source and Anthony Huber moments later on Sheridan Road – and shot and wounded a third.
Rittenhouse faces life in prison for the murder and several other charges related to the shooting. The trial is ongoing, but could be completed by the end of the week.
What we do know happened: The gunmen — along with Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time — were found standing around and on the roof of three Car Source car dealerships in downtown Kenosha.

What the car's source says: After the explosions, the car owner's sons told several media outlets that they never asked for armed help. Their sons are Sahil "Sal" Xindri and Anmol "Sam" Xindri. They said their father spoke little English.
The prosecution showed a screenshot of a text allegedly sent to one of the brothers by someone identifying themselves as "Kyle" who offered armed assistance to protect the businessmen. Sam said he didn't even see the text until August 26, hours after the Rittenhouse shooting.

Another photo showing Sal with the armed group - including Rittenhouse and former Car Source employee Nicholas Smith - was shown in court at one of Car Source's locations. Sal said on the stand that he was interested in men, that he had never seen anyone like them before except "on TV", and asked for a photo. He said he was unaware the group planned to stay on Car Source property.

What gunmen and Rittenhouse defenders say: As of August 25, 2020, Rittenhouse and others who were armed in Kenosha - including Smith, Dominick Black, who provided the gun to Rittenhouse, the defense team of Rittenhouse, Marine Jason Lackowski, JoAnn Fiedler and Army veteran Ryan Balch - confirmed that after the fire at 5821 Sheridan Road, gunmen openly asked the owners of the Arab resource to protect their property.
Sam, who identified himself as a property manager for Car Resources, said during questioning by defense attorney Corey Chirafisi that he could not say how much property was lost in the fire and the destruction.
However, Chirafisi posted good news that Sam said the business suffered a loss of $2.5 million and the company's insurer denied the claim.
"They don't hide the riots. It's domestic terrorism, there's no way to hide it," Sam told WKOW last year. "I'm confused. I'm broke."

On the stand, Sam said he could not confirm the report, that he did not know how much was lost and that the business was insured. Last year, Sam also said he was part owner of Car Source, but on the stand he said he was just an employee.
Chirafisi is growing increasingly frustrated that Sam hasn't given clear answers to the defense after being blunt with the prosecution.
On Tuesday, Smith spoke. He said the owners of Car Source asked him and others to protect Car Source, according to what Black said on the stand a week ago and what Rittenhouse representatives said on August 25.
