No Name Government Custom 1911 Pistol For Sale

Rock Island Armory 2011 Tactical 1911, VZ Grip, 45 ACP 5", True-Glo High Vis Front Sight, Parkerized, 8 Rounded Revolver was the primary sidearm for American law enforcement for most of the 20th century, but the Model 1911 also served Well, for those officers who chose to carry something other than a wheel rifle in .38 Spl. or .357 Mag., the M1911 offered excellent service possibilities for the time.

However, not everything was perfect. The 1911's single-action "cocked and locked" trigger was considered dangerous by some police commanders. As a result, the 1911 was sometimes considered a specialist weapon and issued to SWAT units, with the belief that advanced training was required to carry one safely. As departments moved away from revolvers en masse, firearms companies used marketing terms like "safe action" to play on the minds of managers concerned about 1911 safety.

In the commercial market, the 1911 continues to reign as America's handgun with an appeal that rivals baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet. The pistol spawned several generations of custom gunsmiths, who made a living customizing and tuning guns to meet carry or competition needs. As civilian demand for 1911s grew, so did the companies that made the pistols. Looking back, it only made sense that manufacturers would eventually cut out the middle man and offer pistols that had most of the features previously included by custom gunsmiths.

Upswept beavertail grip protection, extended thumb protection and other useful features have all become standard items in the industry. It also made sense that someone would eventually convert the 1911's single-column magazine to a staggered column. This "double stack" design retained the legacy slide and barrel, but combined them with frames that offered twice the ammunition capacity. Several companies have made high capacity 1911s over the years, a prominent design known as the Staccato 2011 was originally developed and patented by Strayer-Tripp International.

What sets the 2011 apart from other high-capacity 1911s is the frame. To keep the frame width at a comfortable and usable size, STI removed the grip panels and grip screw bushings and incorporated the grip structure directly into a polymer frame extension. The frame is attached to the machined steel upper section via extension screws. Essentially, this gives the STI frame a measure of modularity in that the lower polymer grip section can be replaced with a different colored grip or a different texture. The STI's steel frame section is designed to include a hammer, sear, disconnector and slider rails and pin holes for protection. It is serialized and considered a weapon.

STI began as the brainchild of two men, Sandy Strayer and Virgil Tripp. As time went on, Tripp and Strayer separated and the STI brand was sold. With the change in ownership, the brand grew to include complete pistols as well as parts and accessories for custom gunsmiths. The company then changed hands again, changing the name to Staccato. Along with the name change, the company has also changed its marketing strategy. The gunner frame, slide and other parts are no longer available. Now the focus is on building full factory pistols for law enforcement.

Staccato's Duty Pistol to Staccato 2011 p. The "P" stands for Professional, and follows the company's marketing strategy of advertising the P sub-model as a prime choice for law enforcement. Advertising materials and staccato promotional videos show law enforcement officers practicing on the range with staccato pistols. These same officers are later seen responding to some call with these pistols front and center. Advertising pays, and Staccato P is released or approved for use by at least 500 departments at the time of this writing.

Review: Magnum Research Mr1911 .45 Acp And 10mm Auto

The Staccato P is chambered in 9 mm Luger. This is what many people refer to as the commander size. This means that the pistol has a full-size grip frame and a barrel that is less than 5" long. But, unlike a traditional Commander that has slightly shorter slide travel, the Staccato P has the same 5" as a pistol. There is a slide trip. This extra slide travel gives the magazine spring more time to push the cartridge into the magazine tube, making for a more reliable gun. The barrel is heavy in profile and attaches directly to the slide without the use of a removable barrel bushing and uses an integral feed ramp. The recoil spring guide rod features Staccato's tool-less takedown system. This allows the owner to unload the gun without needing a bent paper clip or a small piece of wire with another guide rod.

The slide comes in two versions. The standard 2011 P is topped with an adjustable Target-style rear sight milled and set deep in the slide. The 2011 P optic ships with a fixed rear that is mounted to its plate in the slide. The plate and rear sight are removable so that different slide-mounted optics can be used. Adapter plates manufactured by Dawson Precision and CHPWS are available for purchase from the Staccato website. Between these companies, there should be a plate available for almost every slide optic on the market today. For the purposes of this review, we used the Staccato 2011P Optic Ready with the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro as well as the Holosun HE509T-RD. Changing one optic for another was simple and easy to achieve with simple hand tools.

As with the original STI, the Staccato 2011 frame is still two separate pieces. The frame's steel dust cover is now machined with a rail for mounting the flashlight. Frame controls are located in typical 1911 locations and in 2011 ships with an ambidextrous thumb safety. Staccato has redesigned the magazine for reliable function with a 9 mm Luger and replaced the magazine catch in the frame. Legacy STI magazines cannot be replaced. The texturing on the grip surface of the frame is good enough from the factory, but some users may want something more aggressive. Grip tape can be easily applied or the polymer grip housing can be removed and textured by someone competent in retexturing polymer frames.

Range and accuracy tests were conducted using a mixture of aluminum, brass and steel-clad ammo. No surprise. Anyone familiar with a 1911 or STI 2011 should have no problem with the Staccato. Our test sample had a trigger that consistently broke at 4.25 lbs. With only a small amount of creep halfway through. This minor glitch is completely unnoticeable when shooting fast and doesn't hinder functionality or accuracy in any way. The accuracy, obviously, was excellent and the staccato P is probably one of the highest
