Staccato Xc Legacy: Born For Sport, Enlisted In The Special Forces

Rock Island Armory 2011 Tactical 1911, VZ Grip, 45 ACP 5", Tru-Glo High Vis Front Sight, Parkerized, 8 Round The revolver was the primary sidearm of American law enforcement for most of the 20th century, but the Model 1911 worked well . here too. Officers who decide carry something other than a .38 Spl or .357 Mag rifle, often patrol the streets with an M1911.., the M1911 allowed for special service in its day.

However, not everyone is perfect. Some police commanders consider the 1911 single-action "lock and bolt" dangerous. As a result, the 1911 is sometimes considered the most professional firearm and is issued to SWAT units due to the belief that advanced training is necessary to carry the weapon safely. As parts moved away from revolvers in general, gun companies used marketing terms like "safe action" to play off executives who were concerned about the 1911's safety.

In the commercial market, the 1911 continues to dominate as America's handgun, with an appeal that rivals baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet. The gun spawned several generations of custom gunsmiths who altered and modified the gun to meet carry or competition needs. As civilian demand for 1911s grew, so did rifle manufacturing companies. In retrospect, it makes sense for manufacturers to cut out the middle and offer guns with most of the features that gun manufacturers have added in the past.

Safety beavertail grips, safety thumb grips and more user-friendly sights have all become standard features in the industry. It also makes sense that someone would eventually turn one of the 1911 magazines into a trigger column. These "double-double" designs retained the baseplate and barrel, but attached them to a frame that provided double the ammo capacity. Many companies have produced powerful 1911s over the years, with the most notable design known as the Staccato 2011, originally designed by Strayer-Tripp International.

Staccato Xl Competition 2011

What sets the 2011 apart from other high-powered 1911s is the frame. To keep the frame width comfortable and practical, STI ditched the grip panels and bolt-on bushings and integrated the grip posts directly into the polymer frame extension. This frame extension is attached to the top of the fabricated metal with screws. Basically, this gives the STI some balance in that the polymer grip part can be replaced with different colored or shaped grips. The steel body part of the STI is designed to include slide holes and pin holes for hammering, tearing, stripping and safety. It is listed and considered a firearm.

Staccato 2011 P Optic Ready's include a DPO plate with a rear sight if the user prefers to use metal sights instead.

STI was started by two talented men, Sandy Strayer and Virgil Tripp. Over time, Tripp and Strayer parted ways and the STI brand was sold. With the change in ownership, the brand has expanded to include complete firearms and even custom gun parts and accessories. The company then changed hands again and changed its name to Staccato. With the name change, the company changed its marketing strategy. Gunsmith frames, slides and other parts are not available. Now the focus is on making perfect factory guns for law enforcement.

2011 .45 Pistol

The Staccato handgun is called the Staccato 2011 P. The "P" stands for professional and follows the company's marketing strategy of promoting the P model as the top choice for law enforcement. Staccato's marketing materials and promotional videos show law enforcement officers working the range with Staccato's rifles. These officers are later seen answering the call with these weapons front and center. Advertising has been paid for, and Staccato P is either offered or approved for use with at least 500 units as of this writing.

The Staccato P is chambered in 9mm luger. Many call him the size of a commander. This means the gun has a full size grip frame and a barrel that is less than 5 inches long. But unlike traditional commanders that have a short slide, the Staccato P has the same slide as a 5-inch pistol. This extra slide gives the magazine spring more time to push the bullet up the magazine tube, making the rifle more accurate. The barrel has a heavy profile and attaches directly to the plate without a removable barrel and uses a feed ramp. The reversible spring handlebar has a Staccato gear lowering system. This allows the owner to remove the gun without having to bend the paper or small wire required with some handlebars.

The slide comes in two forms. The standard 2011 P has an adjustable rear sight on top that is milled deep in the plate. The 2011 P Optic Ready comes with a fixed rear sight mounted on its own scope plate. The plate and rear sight are removable to allow the use of different mounts. Adapter plates manufactured by Dawson Precision and CHPWS are available for purchase on the Staccato website. Between these companies, the disc should be available for almost every monitor installed on the market today. For this review, we used the Staccato 2011 P Optic Ready with a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro and a Holosun HE509T-RD. Changing one view to another is simple and easy with simple hand tools.

As with the original STI, the 2011 Staccato system is still two separate units. The dust cover of the frame now has a rail for attaching the flash. The hull controls are in the general areas of the 1911 and 2011 boats with a thumb lock. Staccato redesigned the magazine for better performance with the 9mm Luger and changed the magazine catch on the frame. The old STI magazines are unchanged. The writing on the top of the frame is pretty good from the factory, but some users may want something more subtle. Someone familiar with polymer frame rewriting can easily apply adhesive tape or remove the polymer handle housing.

Range and accuracy tests were conducted with a mixture of aluminum, brass and steel ammunition. There is no surprise. Anyone familiar with a 1911 or STI 2011 should have no problem with the Staccato. Our test model had a trigger that broke at a normal 4.25 lbs. with a little pain about halfway through. This small bump is completely unnoticeable when shooting quickly and does not hinder performance or accuracy in any way. Consistency is actually excellent and Staccato P might be one of the greatest
